FOREWORD
The recreational tobacco and nicotine industry is dealing with numerous environmental and sustainability issues that are both historical and forward facing. With an estimated 1.3 billion adult smokers and 350 million oral tobacco consumers, the industry is intensive in its use of natural resources.
Over 5.7 trillion cigarettes are manufactured annually on a global basis, resulting in billions of units of packaging and millions of tonnes of raw material inputs from tobacco, filters, paper board and plastics. Although the industry is in a transformative stage (as it moves towards reduced harm products), these novel products also present numerous compliance, ESG, waste management and natural resource use issues for companies.
Despite the pivot from combustible products to HNB, vape and other recreational nicotine delivery systems, tobacco and nicotine companies need to more clearly address the wider policy concerns that are raised regarding overall product sustainability and stewardship, waste management systems and minimizing product use impacts on the environment.

OUR MISSION
We are proudly introducing the first International Symposium on Environmental Sustainability for Tobacco and Nicotine (ESTN Symposium) powered by Wingle Group.The first symposium in the series is held in Malaga (Spain) in cooperation with Messe Dortmund that has been organizing the world’s most relevant trade shows in a variety of sectors for decades, focusing on B2B and B2C segments, and through both on-site and off-site events.The event aims at gathering like minded representatives of the vaping and tobacco industries with a shared commitment to address one of the most pressing challenges of our time — the intersection of tobacco and nicotine products with environmental sustainability.
The ESTN Symposium serves as a platform to foster meaningful discussions, exchange innovative ideas, and explore practical solutions aimed at mitigating the environmental consequences associated with the production, consumption, and disposal of tobacco and nicotine products. It is an opportunity for experts, researchers, policymakers, industry representatives, and environmental advocates to come together and collectively address the challenges at hand.
The ESTN Symposium is to be held biannually.
The upcoming 2025 meetings are expected for North and South America, based on demand and opportunity.
